An Orthodontist Close to Home for Furlong Families

Furlong sits where York Road (Route 263) meets Swamp Road (Route 313), right on the line between Doylestown and Buckingham Townships, and that second road is the easy part of getting to us. Route 313 runs about four miles from Furlong to our Doylestown office at 252 W Swamp Rd, Suite 50. Most families make the drive in about ten minutes or less.

Orthodontic Specialists is an orthodontic practice. Straightening teeth and correcting bites is all we do. Dr. Justin Silvestre, DMD, and Dr. Gregory Gittleman, DMD see patients at our Doylestown, Souderton and Quakertown offices. Doylestown is the closest of the three to Furlong.

Fitting Treatment Around the Central Bucks School Year

Furlong is part of the Central Bucks School District, from Bridge Valley Elementary on Sugar Bottom Road up through the middle and high schools. Braces and aligner visits have to fit around school, sports and activities, so we plan for that from the first appointment.

A short drive helps. So does DentalMonitoring, an app that lets your child take scheduled photos of their teeth at home. Our orthodontists review those photos and contact you if something needs attention. For many patients that means fewer trips out of class for routine checks.

You can find current hours on the Doylestown office page. If Doylestown’s schedule is hard to make, our Souderton and Quakertown offices are another option.

When Should a Furlong Child First See an Orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic evaluation by age seven. At that age most children still have a mix of baby and adult teeth, which lets us check jaw growth and spacing while there is still time to guide them. Many seven-year-olds don’t need treatment yet. A check at that age tells you whether to wait or act.

When a problem is better handled early, we may recommend early interceptive treatment, also called Phase 1. It usually takes place between ages six and ten and can include an expander to widen the upper jaw or a space maintainer after a baby tooth is lost too soon. The aim is to make any later treatment simpler, not to finish the smile at age eight.

Braces and Spark Aligners at Our Doylestown Office

Most older children and teens from Furlong choose between two kinds of treatment:

  • Braces, including traditional metal, clear and self-ligating options. Braces work for almost every kind of tooth or bite problem, and nothing comes out at lunch or during practice.
  • Spark clear aligners, a series of removable trays. They suit patients who will wear them 20 to 22 hours a day and want treatment that is less visible.

We plan both with an iTero 3D scanner instead of messy impression putty, so you can see a preview of the finished smile before you decide. Parents of younger patients can read more on our braces for kids page.

Orthodontic Care for Furlong Adults

Orthodontics isn’t only for kids. Adults who never had braces, or who had them years ago and stopped wearing a retainer, can still straighten their teeth. Adult treatment starts with a check of gum and bone health. Many adults choose aligners for work, but braces are just as effective. We explain the trade-offs at the consultation and you decide.

What Your First Visit in Doylestown Looks Like

Your first consultation is complimentary. You’ll meet the team, we’ll take digital X-rays and photos, and one of our orthodontists will examine the teeth, bite and jaw. Before you leave you’ll know whether treatment is recommended now, later, or not at all, along with the likely timeline and cost.

Bring your dental insurance card and any records your dentist gave you. Our team files orthodontic claims for you, takes all major credit cards, cash and checks, and offers monthly payment plans so treatment fits the family budget. We also speak Spanish.
